After two abortive movements since January 5 national election to oust the government BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has once again threatened to launch another campaign after the party’s reshuffle.
“This time the movement will be peaceful. We will do it along with people of the country,” she said after exchanging Eid greetings with foreign diplomats, eminent citizens and party leaders at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre yesterday.
The former premier said people of the country were passing bad days as prices of daily essentials had gone up.
On law and order Khaleda said it seemed that the country had no rule of law and what is evident in every newspaper that are full of news on murders and abductions.
Habiganj Mayor GK Gaus was on his way to perform Eid prayer when he was stabbed inside the jail that clearly indicates that even prisons are not safe, she said.
Thousands of cases have been filed against BNP leaders and activists. A lot of BNP leaders are in jail. There is no specific statistic for how many people have so far been abducted.
“So we have to reorganise the party before we launch an anti-government movement.”
The BNP chief said their movement will be meant for the welfare and well-being of people of the country.
Khaleda alleged that the government was plotting to split the BNP.
Newspaper reports tend to say the BNP had already split up and there is no unity in the party, she said terming the reports a load of bullshit.
The BNP has always been with the people and it will always be with them, she vowed.
After exchanging greetings with guests, Khaleda went to her husband and party founder Ziaur Rahman’s grave and offered doa there.
Then she went to her younger son Arafat Rahman Koko’s graveyard and offered doa there too along with Koko’s two daughters Zafia Rahman and Zahia Rahman before she returned to her Gulshan residence.
