A commemorative discussion titled Sediner Ek Bikel was held on Friday at the Mahila Samiti Auditorium in the city to honor the late singer Hasan Abidur Reza Jewel.
Friends, colleagues, and admirers gathered to reflect on Jewel’s musical career and his contributions to the Bangladeshi music industry.
The event featured heartfelt reminiscences from various guests, including popular singer Naquib Khan, lyricist Zulfikar Russell, producer Syed Awlad, Aka Reza Ghalib, media personality Gausul Alam Shaon, and reciter Shimul Mustafa, along with Jewel's family and closest friends.
Musicians Bappa Majumder, Rashid Khan, and Masuduzzaman presented the commemorative discussion, which also included prominent figures from television media, newspapers, and the cultural scene of Bangladesh.
Organized by Jewel's closest friends, the meeting aimed to preserve his memory for future generations and ensure that his legacy continues to inspire others.
Hasan Abidur Reza Jewel, a beloved figure in the Bangladeshi music scene, passed away on July 30 after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was renowned for his melodic style and soulful voice, having released ten solo albums and over fifty joint albums throughout his career. Some of his notable songs include Sediner Ek Bikelle, Chokh Shyam Swapna Rhai, Samane Tomar Chander Pahar, Amar Chai Dhankam, and Morbo Moran.
Many of these hits were composed and produced by celebrated music directors Ayub Bachchu and Bappa Majumder, securing Jewel's place in the hearts of music lovers across the country.
In addition to his musical achievements, Jewel was a multi-talented individual recognized as a successful television program maker.
He produced notable shows such as Bolte Chai, Mithaskriya, Music Cafe, Lux Super Star, Nothun Dhaker Bajana, and Sarasari. He also played a pivotal role in producing popular reality shows like Sera Randhooni, Spelling Bee, Bauliana, and Khude Gaanraj.
Jewel held significant positions in the television industry, serving as Head of Events at Channel I and Head of Programs at Maasranga Television.
His contributions as an event organizer have opened doors for many young talents both in Bangladesh and abroad. Beyond television, Jewel made a mark in film and commercial production, working on documentaries and awareness-building audio-visual projects for various government ministries, international organizations, and corporations.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Jewel had a passion for photography and travel, often traveling with friends and showcasing his work in photography exhibitions. His diverse talents and contributions to the arts will be remembered and celebrated by many.
