People of Bangladesh respect Serajul Alam Khan, one of the chief organizers of 1971 Liberation War, for his thinking, Saiful Haque, general secretary of the Revolutionary Workers Party, has said.
He said Serajul Alam Khan, one of the founders of the Bangladesh Liberation Force (BLF), had a vision of reforming policies based on the lessons from the Liberation War.
Saiful Haque made the statement at an event to commemorate the first death anniversary of Serajul, also known as Dada Bhai.
Jubo Bangali, a non-partisan youth organization, organized the seminar titled "Effect of Colonial Rule and Our Awareness” on Sunday at the seminar hall of Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in Dhaka.
At the event, Gano Forum General Secretary Advocate Subrata Chowdhury highlighted Serajul Alam Khan's pivotal role in the Liberation War.
Subrata Chowdhury said after March 25, people fled Dhaka and armed themselves, inspired by leaders like Serajul. He had envisioned independence since the 1960s.
Freedom Fighter Abul Bashar reminisced about his experiences during the liberation war and his time with Serajul Alam Khan at the event.
Serajul Alam Khan was one of the founders of “Sadhin Bangla Nucleus”, a secret organization that spearheaded Bangladesh's Liberation War in 1971.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) General Secretary Shahiduddin Mahmud Swapan said the main goal of “Sadhin Bangla Nucleus” aimed to break free from the colonial governance styles of the British and Pakistanis and establish a Bangladesh based on equality.
He criticized the governance policies inherited from the British and Pakistanis, describing them as supportive of dictatorship, and lauded Serajul for his commitment to justice.
Ganosamhati Andolan Chief Coordinator Zonayed Saki said: “Independence means the independence of all the people.”
Referring to the current government as the same as the British rulers, he said: “Rulers may change, but not the governance policy.”
The seminar was also attended by prominent figures including Serajul Alam Khan’s niece, Shayla Khanom; and Freedom Fighter and Advisor to the BNP Chairperson Abus Salam.
Serajul Alam Khan, a political theorist often referred to as the architect of Bangladesh by his associates, passed away on June 9, 2023, at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
