Former communications minister and Awami League’s former lawmaker of Madaripur-3 constituency Syed Abul Hossain died while undergoing treatment at the United Hospital in the capital early Wednesday. He was 72 years old.
Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap said that Syed Abul’s family informed about the death.
Details about the burial would be learnt later, he added.
The United Hospital authorities said that he died at 2:05am. His body has been kept in the hospital.
Abul Hossain was elected Member of Parliament from Madaripur-3 Constituency for Bangladesh Awami League in 1991 in the 5th national parliamentary election. After that, he served as a member of parliament in the seventh, eighth and ninth parliamentary elections.
Abul Hossain served as the minister of communications (now the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges) in the Awami League government from 2009-2012.
Syed Abul Hossain was born in Madaripur in 1951. He is a politician and businessman by profession.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of former Communications Minister and Awami League’s former lawmaker of Madaripur-3 constituency Syed Abul Hossain.
In a message of condolence, the premier, who is now in Brussels, Belgium on a three-day official visit to attend the Global Gateway Forum, prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
