BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has accused the government of conspiring to split up BNP.
“Many plots are now being cooked up to weaken and split up BNP. They [the government] tried to do so in the past as well, but failed,” the BNP leader said while addressing a milad mahfil held at the party's headquarters in Naya Paltan, Dhaka on Thursday.
“We would like to unequivocally say that they will not be able to break BNP up. Whenever such attempts have been made in the past, the party has risen again, like a phoenix,” Fakhrul said.
The BNP arranged the milad to observe the fourth death anniversary of party chief Khaleda Zia's younger son Arafat Rahman Koko, reported BNP.
Fakhrul urged his party members to go to the people to mobilize support in favour of the party and its politics to strengthen BNP further.

He also urged the democratic and patriotic forces to get united to defeat the current government “as it has taken a position against people and democracy”.
The BNP leader recalled Koko’s contribution to the country's sports sector and prayed for the salvation of his departed soul.
He called upon BNP leaders and activists to get organized to free BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.
On Thursday morning, BNP leaders and activists, led by Fakhrul, offered special prayers at Koko's grave in Banani graveyard, Dhaka.
Koko died of cardiac arrest at the age of 45 in Malaysia on January 24, 2015.
