Her late husband was the founder of the Hassan Group of Industries, which owns Chandni Chawk and Balaka Cinemas in the New Market area, according to a press release.
Hamidi Begum’s burial took place at the Azimpur graveyard in Dhaka on Wednesday. Her qulkhani will be held at Baitul Atik Jam-e-Masjid in Baridhara on Friday after Asr prayers.
Hamidi Begum was the mother of Rashida Khatun, late Dawood Hassan, Tauheed Hassan, Arif Hassan, and Imam Hassan.
She was also blessed with 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Born in Calcutta, Hamidi witnessed two world wars and the birth of three nations during her lifetime. She was deeply pious, told colourful stories, and had a vast knowledge of proverbs.
