On November 23, Carrie, 60, suffered a cardiac arrest on a flight from London to Los Angeles. Reports of her heart stopping for ten minutes had prematurely led to the speculation of the inauspicious 2016 claiming another beloved star.
She was hospitalised upon landing and placed in the ICU of UCLA Medical Centre.After four days of valiant struggle, during which her family, friends, fans, and well-wishers breathed in relief of a recovery, she breathed her last.
An avid reader, and a college dropout, Carrie Fisher was as much royalty in real life as she was in the Star Wars franchise. She was frank about her demons - her bipolar disorders, drug addictions, celebrity marriages - yet maintained an aura of dignity around her. Her gentle, vivacious demeanour won her praise from all her co-workers.
