The 3rd session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad is set to begin on August 27.
Ahead of the session, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed restrictions on carrying weapons and holding gatherings, processions and demonstrations in and around the parliament complex in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar to maintain law and order.
The restrictions were announced in a public notice signed by DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed.
Under Sections 28 and 29 of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ordinance, the notice bans the carrying of all types of weapons, explosives and other harmful or polluting materials in the designated areas from midnight on Wednesday.
It also prohibits gatherings, processions, rallies and demonstrations in the areas.
The restricted areas are:
- From Mohakhali Crossing on Mymensingh Road to Bangla Motor Crossing via the old airport;
- From the western end of Bangla Motor Link Road to SAARC Fountain on Hotel Sonargaon Road;
- From the eastern end of Panthapath to the Green Road junction and Farmgate;
- From Shyamoli Intersection on Mirpur Road to the Dhanmondi-16 (formerly Road 27) junction;
- From the Rokeya Sarani junction to Bijoy Sarani Tourism Crossing via the old 9M Division (aeroplane) crossing;
- From the eastern end of Indira Road to the western end of Manik Mia Avenue; and
- The reserved area of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban and all roads and lanes within the boundary.
The notice said the restrictions will remain in force until the conclusion of the 3rd session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
