Acting President and National Parliament Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, received a floral reception after assuming the responsibilities of the president on Friday afternoon.
Among those who greeted the acting president with floral bouquets were National Parliament Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal, Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam, Attorney General Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal, and Bangladesh National Parliament Secretariat Secretary Barrister Md Golam Sorwar Bhuiyan, according to a press release issued by the National Parliament Secretariat.
Earlier on Friday, President Mohammed Sahabuddin submitted his resignation letter to the speaker of the National Parliament in accordance with Article 50(3) of the Constitution of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, the release said.
Following the resignation, Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, assumed the responsibilities of the president under Article 54 of the Constitution, becoming the acting president of the People's Republic of Bangladesh until further constitutional arrangements are made.
