50 MPs elected to reserved women's seats take oath

Fifty MPs to reserved women's seats for the 12th National Parliament were sworn in on Wednesday afternoon.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the oath-taking ceremony at the oath chamber of the National Parliament around 3:30pm.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, deputy speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku, deputy leader of the House Matia Chowdhury, and whips of parliament were present at the ceremony among others.

The oath of Awami League MPs was held first. After that, two members of the Jatiya Party (JaPa) took the oath. 

The Election Commission Secretariat announced the election of 50 MPs to reserved women's seats for the 12th National Parliament on Tuesday. 

Among them, two are from the Jatiya Party, while the remaining are from the Awami League and one from the Ganotantri Party, a partner of the 14-party alliance.
