Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said her government is not sparing anyone involved in corruption.
“We are not sparing anyone involved in corruption, whatever their political identity is. Unfortunately, it seems like we are being labelled as thieves as we are nabbing the real ones,” said the premier.
The prime minister made the statement during the closing speech of National Parliament’s budget session on Thursday noon.
The premier also said: “However, previously irregularities were regular things in this country.”
After 1975, the military dictator regimes formed a corrupt class of people across the country, who are still doing corruption, she added.
“We have managed to announce the budget for the current fiscal year, and even held a budget session amid the coronavirus pandemic,” said the prime minister.
“Our economy will run in its own way. As the pandemic affects the whole world, we might not achieve our budget targets properly but our progress will not stop,” she added.
She said the aim is to mobilize the economic growth of the country.
Awami League President Sheikh Hasina also said that not only the government, but the party workers are also assisting the people during this Covid-19 crisis.
She mentioned about the aid and support provided by the Jubo League, Krishok League, Shechchashebok League, Chhatra League and other associated organizations of Awami League.
“There are many political parties in our country. How many of them are assisting people during this disaster? It is Awami League who always stand beside people while some other parties criticize the government by sitting at home,” said the Awami League president.
The prime minister again thanked the finance minister for placing the budget amid the pandemic.
She also proposed a special aid -- one month supplementary salary -- for the officials who operated the Parliament’s budget session during this pandemic by taking health risks.
