Rail minister: Will remain alert to prevent accidents in future

We have suspended three on-duty railway employees over the accident

Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan has assured that officials of the Railways Ministry and Bangladesh Railway will remain alert to prevent recurrence of train accidents in future. 

He made the commitment before the parliament on Wednesday, while giving his statement under section 300 of the rules of procedure over Tuesday’s fatal train accident in Brahmanbaria that left 16 people dead and 54 others injured. 

The minister said primarily it seems the loco master of Turna Nishita Express train was responsible for the fatal train accident, reports UNB.

“We have suspended three on-duty railway employees over the accident,” he said.

The suspended employees are loco master Tasir Uddin, assistant loco master Apu Dey and guard Abdur Rahman.

Sujan said four committees were constituted at different levels to investigate the accident.

Of the injured, 10 are in Brahmanbaria Hospital while nine in Pangu Hospital in Dhaka, three in Dhaka Medical College Hospital, three in Kasba Hospital, seven in Dhaka CMH and four in Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.

He said each injured person was given Tk10,000 while Bangladesh Railway has taken steps to give Tk1 lakh for the families of the deceased each.
