A woman committed suicide in sadar upazila on Wednesday, after having been harassed by representatives of an NGO for failing to pay installments on a loan.
The woman was named as Sheuly Khatun, of Sharajganj Bazar village in the upazila.
According to her family, Sheuly took the loan from TMSS, a local NGO, so as to send it to Malaysia where her husband, who has lived as an expatriate for ten years, is undergoing medical treatment.
Sheuly fell behind on installments, and NGO field workers came to her house and began to verbally harass her, the victim’s son Labhlu said.
Suffering from depression, Sheuly hanged herself from the ceiling of her house at around 4pm, he added.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital morgue, said Officer-in-Charge Mohammel Haque at Sadar police station.
