Children's home staff removed over child abuse allegations

Update : 31 Jul 2017, 10:06 PM
A staff of Satkhira Sarkari Shishu Paribar, a government shelter for vulnerable children, has been removed by the authorities over allegations of child molestation. The allegations came forth during an angry outburst of the shelter's children following the abuse of a fellow child on Sunday night. Talking to the Dhaka Tribune, the children alleged that Biman Bairagi, an office assistant, had called up one of them to give him a body massage in the evening. The official also tried to molest the boy at that time. As the other children came to know about the incident later, they planned a protest. The officials said the children suddenly started beating up the alleged molester while he was serving the night meal after the Esha prayers. Three other officials, who went to rescue the alleged molester, were also given a good beating. The shelter's Deputy Supervisor Md Mizanur Rahman said they had already removed Biman Bairagi over allegations of child molestation. A three-member probe body, headed by the upazila nirbahi officer of Satkhira sadar, has been formed to investigate the allegations raised by the children.
