Ruhul Kuddus Mir Farhad Ali, a student at the Rajshahi University's (RU) Physics department, has been missing for the last six months.
Farhad, a resident of Rajshahi's Bhatapara, was pursuing his masters at the university when he went missing last February.
A case was filed with Rajpara police station two months after the incident.
According to the case, Farhad left his house for university on an old motorcycle on February 14.
Four to five people forced Farhad into a microbus bearing the logo of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), while he was waiting for a bus to go to his university, after leaving his motorcycle at a garage.
Farhad's mother Fahmina Khatun alleged that the people who abducted him had introduced themselves as members of RAB.
Claiming that police refused to take the case at first, she said they were still unable to provide any information four months after the case had been filed.
Saleh Hasan Naqib, a professor at the Physics department at RU and chief of the disciplinary committee, said: “When any student from the department goes missing, the disciplinary committee usually investigates it.
“When we heard about Farhad's incident, the department's chairperson and I went to the RAB's office to ask about him but they told us that they had no idea about it.”
He said: “As far as I know, Farhad was part of Tablig and Jamaat, he was quite religious and hung out with friends a lot. He was very energetic. Personally, I never felt like he was involved with anything bad.”
RAB 5 Company Commander Major AM Ashraful Islam said: “Since this incident happened quite a while ago, we have no information on this. We will have to look into it.”
His family, however, claims that RAB itself was involved in Farhad's kidnapping.
Rajpara police station's Officer-in-Charge Hafizur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune: “I started working here recently. I do not have any information regarding it.”
He said he would inquire about the issue.
