An 18-year-old German tourist lost his bag containing a laptop, camera and other valuables at Natore Railway Station on Wednesday after leaving it with a railway official before going to an ATM.
The tourist, identified as Kirill, arrived at the station by train from Bogra at around 4pm and left the bag in the waiting room before heading out to withdraw cash.
Kirill said he left his belongings with a railway official wearing a vest, who assured him that he would look after the items while he was away.
When he returned after withdrawing money, neither the official nor his bag and belongings could be found, he said.
Kirill said he searched in and around the station but could not locate his belongings.
According to Kirill, the iCloud location of his laptop showed that it was in the Naogaon area at around 6:40pm on Wednesday. The location data has raised hopes that the missing belongings may be recovered.
Kirill subsequently contacted railway authorities and was referred to Natore Sadar Police Station. He remained there for an extended period awaiting assistance and was seen breaking down in tears.
Natore Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Monsur Rahman said the matter primarily falls under the jurisdiction of railway police.
“However, as the victim is a foreign national, we are treating the matter with the utmost importance,” he said.
The OC said police had already identified the location of the missing devices and sent a team there.
“We hope to recover Kirill’s laptop, camera and other missing belongings soon,” he added.
