Three die of dengue in Khulna in 24 hours, 302 hospitalised

Khulna district reported the highest number of new admissions

The dengue outbreak continues to worsen in Khulna Division, with three more people dying of the mosquito-borne disease and 302 patients hospitalised in the last 24 hours until 8am on Tuesday.

Khulna Divisional Health Director Dr Sheikh Mosharraf Hossain disclosed the information on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the health department, two of the three deaths occurred at hospitals in Khulna district, while the other was reported at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH). With the latest deaths, the dengue death toll in the division has reached 55 since January 1 this year.

Of the 302 newly hospitalised patients, 231 are receiving treatment at government hospitals and 71 at private facilities.

Khulna district recorded the highest number of new admissions at 143, followed by KMCH with 44, Bagerhat 35, Jessore 18, Narail 18, Satkhira 16, Magura 10, Meherpur eight, Kushtia seven and Chuadanga three.

Health department data show that 15,063 people have been infected with dengue in the division since the beginning of the year.

Of them, 13,379 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, while 1,263 patients are currently undergoing treatment at hospitals across the division.
