Police have recovered the dismembered body of an unidentified man, cut into six pieces and packed into three plastic sacks, from beside a paddy field in Madhukhali, Faridpur.

The remains were recovered around 10am Saturday from an area near Boalia Stand in Boalia union of the upazila.

According to police and local sources, passersby spotted three tied plastic sacks at the base of a palm tree beside paddy fields belonging to Lavlu Mallick and Ishaq Miah. The sacks were found on the right side of the Faridpur-bound road, about 200 yards past Boalia Stand.

Suspecting something was wrong, locals called the national emergency service number 999. An assistant superintendent of police for the Madhukhali-Boalmari-Alphadanga circle and Sub-Inspector Masudur Rahman of Madhukhali police station later arrived at the scene with a team.

The sacks were opened in the presence of locals, revealing six severed body parts believed to be those of a man aged around 40.

Police prepared an inquest report at the scene, but the man’s identity could not immediately be established.

Masuduzzaman, ASP of the Madhukhali-Boalmari-Alphadanga circle, said the remains had been sent to Faridpur Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.

“If the identity remains unknown after the autopsy, necessary arrangements will be made to hand the body over to Anjuman Mufidul Islam for burial in accordance with religious rites,” he said.

He added that police were working to identify the deceased and determine the circumstances behind the incident.

Further legal proceedings are underway.
