At least four passengers were injured after jumping from a moving train when two trains entered the same track at Sukhanpukur Railway Station in Gabtali upazila of Bogra on Wednesday morning.
Sukhanpukur Railway Station Station Master Abdul Matin confirmed the incident and said a three-member committee had been formed to investigate the matter.
According to local residents, the incident occurred at around 8:30am when a college train was entering Sukhanpukur Railway Station and the Padmarag Express entered the same track from the opposite direction.
Seeing the two trains approaching each other, passengers panicked. Several jumped from the moving train to avoid a possible collision, leaving at least four people injured.
The injured received treatment locally and left afterward. Their names and identities could not be confirmed. Railway officials said the prompt response of the train drivers and railway authorities helped avert a major accident.
Abdul Matin said: “The college train was not given a signal or line clearance. The situation arose because the train entered the station before receiving clearance. The matter is being examined.”
Railway authorities said an investigation had already begun to determine the cause of the incident. They added that action would be taken against those responsible after the investigation is completed.
Assistant Bridge Engineer, Lalmonirhat, Afzal Hossain said: “A three-member investigation committee has been formed under the leadership of TI Lalmonirhat Sohir Uddin. The other two members of the committee are SSE/Loco Lalmonirhat Inspector Kazi Sumon and SSE/Signal Ziaul Haque. The committee has been asked to submit its report within the next three working days. Action will be taken against those responsible after the report is received.”
