Gopalganj University of Science and Technology (GSTU) celebrated its 25th founding anniversary with a colorful program on Wednesday, marking University Day-2026.
The celebration began at 9:30 am with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Hossain Uddin Shekhar and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Sohel Hasan inaugurating the event by hoisting the national flag and the university flag. Balloons were released and pigeons were flown as symbols of peace.
A festive procession was brought out from the administrative building and paraded through the main roads of the campus. Later, a cake-cutting ceremony was held and sweets were distributed among participants.
A discussion meeting was organized at the university’s tennis court premises at 11 am, where Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Hossain Uddin Shekhar attended as the chief guest. The meeting was chaired by Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Sohel Hasan and moderated by Assistant Professor Mainul Islam of the Department of English.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the university’s development initiatives, including the appointment of new teachers, improvement of laboratory facilities, renovation of the medical center, and plans for further expansion through a Tk 1,200 crore development project proposal.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Sohel Hasan paid tribute to the pioneers of the university and called for collective efforts to transform GUST into a center of education and research.
The university’s administrative building and main gate were illuminated to mark the anniversary celebration.
