The Revolutionary Student-Youth Movement has strongly condemned and protested the alleged attack on Comrade Nafis Ahmed Shawon, member secretary of the Gopalganj Science and Technology University (GSTU) unit of Chhatra Ganamancha.
The organization issued a press statement on Tuesday, expressing its condemnation of the incident.
According to the statement, Shawon had been vocal against alleged recruitment irregularities, politicisation and other forms of corruption at the university, and had been at the forefront of protests against the vice-chancellor. The organization alleged that he was targeted because of his role in these movements and his opposition to the university administration.
The attack reportedly took place on Monday. Shawon sustained serious injuries in the incident, including a fracture to his arm.
The Revolutionary Student-Youth Movement demanded that those responsible for the attack be identified and brought to justice immediately.
