Police arrested a 40-year-old man on Saturday for allegedly raping a ninth-grader in Monirampur upazila of Jessore district.
The arrestee is Sameer, son of Nowsher Ali, a resident of Jaynagar village under Monirampur municipality.
Police said a group of local youths intercepted the girl in a secluded area when she was on her way to a private tutoring session and raped her.
The victim later returned home and informed her family members about the ordeal.
Following the incident, the victim's brother filed a case with Monirampur Police Station naming three individuals as accused.
Abu Sayeed, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Monirampur Police Station, said police launched a drive and arrested Sameer immediately after the complaint was lodged.
The victim has been sent to Jessore Medical College Hospital for a medical examination and collection of necessary forensic evidence, he said.
Efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects, the OC added.
