Bangladesh's Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) has warned that low-lying areas could experience short-term flooding within the next 24 to 72 hours as heavy rainfall continues across the country and upstream regions in India, at least in six districts of the country.
The warning comes as river water levels rise in several major river systems, prompting concerns over possible inundation in vulnerable areas of Sylhet, Rangpur, and Mymensingh divisions.
According to the FFWC, heavy to very heavy rainfall was recorded over the past 24 hours in parts of the Mymensingh and Chittagong divisions, while moderate to heavy rainfall occurred in the Rangpur, Sylhet, and Dhaka divisions.
Similar weather conditions were also reported in the Indian states of Meghalaya, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh.
