The Bangladesh Coast Guard has reiterated its firm commitment to combating piracy in the Sundarbans, preventing drug and human trafficking, and ensuring the security of coastal communities.

Speaking after inspecting the overall security situation in the Sundarbans on Thursday, Coast Guard Director General Rear Admiral Md. Ziaul Haque said the force remains vigilant in protecting the country's maritime resources and maintaining law and order in coastal and maritime areas, said a press release.

He highlighted the Coast Guard's key responsibilities, including preventing smuggling, illegal infiltration, drug trafficking, and human trafficking, while ensuring the safety of fishermen and coastal residents. The force also plays a crucial role in conducting rescue and relief operations during natural disasters.

The Director General urged residents of the Sundarbans and coastal regions not to be misled by rumors, misinformation, or propaganda, and to maintain confidence in law enforcement agencies.

He called on the public to support crime prevention efforts by reporting suspicious or criminal activities through the Coast Guard emergency hotline (16111), helping protect the Sundarbans, its biodiversity, and local livelihoods.
