Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan visited Rohingya camps in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar, on Friday, inspecting humanitarian assistance activities and a Turkish-supported field hospital.

After arriving in Cox’s Bazar from Dhaka in the afternoon, Fidan visited Rohingya Camp-9 in the Balukhali area of Ukhia at around 4pm, according to officials.

During the visit, he toured the field hospital operated with Turkish assistance and spoke with Rohingya patients receiving medical services there.

The Turkish foreign minister later visited Camps 16 and 17, where he inquired about living conditions, healthcare services and ongoing humanitarian support for displaced Rohingyas. He also exchanged views with officials involved in managing the healthcare facilities.

Fidan left Cox’s Bazar later in the evening.

Chief Adviser’s Special Envoy for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir, Ukhia Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rifat Asma, Ukhia Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Mujibur Rahman, members of the 8 Armed Police Battalion (APBn), RAB-15 and other law enforcement and intelligence officials were present during the visit.

Commander of the 8 APBn, Riaz Uddin Ahmed, said special security measures had been taken in the camp area ahead of the Turkish foreign minister’s visit.

“The visit was completed peacefully with adequate security arrangements in place,” he said.

Fidan’s visit to the camps came as part of his official trip to Bangladesh. During the visit, Türkiye reiterated its support for a peaceful resolution of the Rohingya crisis and the safe, voluntary and sustainable repatriation of Rohingyas to Myanmar, officials said.
