A spotted deer died after being attacked by stray dogs in a residential area near the Karnaphuli Hydroelectric Power Plant in Kaptai, Rangamati.

The incident occurred on Sunday when the deer reportedly entered the locality from a nearby forest in search of food and was attacked by dogs while trying to eat lychee from a tree. The deer died on the spot, said Jamal Uddin, Assistant Conservator of Forests of the Chittagong South Forest Division.

Belal Hossain, president of the Bangladesh Jatiya Sramik Karmachari Union (CBA), Kaptai branch, said they rushed to the scene after hearing loud dog barking in the morning.

“We found the deer lying dead after a dog attack, with significant injuries and flesh torn from its hind area,” he said. Local residents later informed officials of the Bangladesh Forest Department’s Karnaphuli Range, who arrived and recovered the carcass.

Kaptai Upazila Livestock Officer Dr Enamul Haque Hazari said a veterinary team led by Dr Rabbiul Islam examined the animal after receiving the report. “The deer died due to injuries caused by a dog attack. A post-mortem was conducted, and the carcass was later buried,” he added.
