Six rubber plantation workers who were abducted by unidentified armed assailants in Tongkabati union under Bandarban Sadar upazila have been rescued by the members of the Bangladesh Army.
The rescued workers have been identified as Md Ismail, Md Arafat, Md Shafik, Md Nurul Afsar, Md Kalimullah, and Md Romit.
According to an army press release, a large number of personnel from the Bandarban Army Zone conducted extensive rescue operations at all possible locations from April 23 until 5:00 am on April 24 following the abduction. Acting on tip-off, troops launched a drive early Friday and approached the hill where the victims were being held.
Sensing the presence of the army, the kidnappers fled the scene, leaving the workers behind. The army personnel then rescued the victims unharmed.
During the operation, a suspect identified as Mangtang Mro (30) was detained. After completing initial procedures, the Bangladesh Army returned the rescued workers to their respective families.
The incident occurred on April 22 when an unidentified armed group abducted the six workers from a rubber plantation in Tongkabati union and demanded a ransom of Tk 20 lakh.
