Fire guts shops, cattle farm in Bandarban

Authorities from the fire service and police said the exact cause of the incident will be determined after an investigation

A devastating fire in Rowangchhari upazila of Bandarban has destroyed five shops, a house, and a cattle farm, leaving several families in distress.

The fire broke out around 2 am on Tuesday in the old bus station area of Wagoy Para, Ward 9 under Alexyang Union No. 3. The flames spread quickly, burning down 5 shops, a residence, and the cattle farm. Goods stored in the shops, two motorcycles, and livestock—including three cows and two goats—were completely destroyed.

Although the exact cause of the fire is still unknown, locals suspect it may have started from the cattle farm owned by farmer Mohammad Jasim Uddin.

The affected individuals have been identified as Priyo Tanchangya, Munyajoy Tanchangya, Kalyanmoy Tanchangya, Mohammad Jasim Uddin, and trader Mohammad Idris. They reported that they were unable to save any belongings due to the intensity of the fire.

According to local residents and police, the fire was first noticed late at night while most people were asleep. Emergency services, including firefighters and police, arrived quickly and managed to bring the blaze under control with the help of locals.

One of the victims, Priyo Tanchangya, estimated the total loss to be between Tk 15 to 20 lakh.

After receiving news of the fire, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tajmin Alam Tuli visited the scene in the morning and distributed relief materials on behalf of the administration. Local Union Parishad Chairman Bishwanath Tanchangya and others were also present.
