The administration seized 750 liters of diesel stored in a water tank on the roof of a house in Charjabbar Union under Subarnachar upazila of Noakhali on Thursday night.
Executive Magistrate and Subarnachar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Aqib Osman conducted the drive following a tip-off.
During the operation, officials found a large quantity of diesel stored in the rooftop water tank of a house owned by Basir Sareng, also known as Bosu Serang.
Local sources said the fuel had been secretly stored in the tank for some time. The matter came to light when it was discovered that the tank contained oil instead of water.
They said storing such a large amount of flammable material in a populated area posed a serious risk.
Authorities said it was primarily suspected that the fuel had been kept for illegal sale.
Aqib Osman said the seized diesel was confiscated and immediately auctioned at depot price to a licensed trader at Chor Hasan Bhuiyar Hat market.
He said Bosu Serang was fined Tk 10,000 under the Petroleum Act, 2016, for illegally storing flammable material, and the fine was realized on the spot.
