The banks of the Padma River in Rajshahi have emerged as a vibrant center of celebration during the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, drawing large crowds of visitors from across the city.
While rainfall kept attendance relatively low on Eid day, the number of visitors surged significantly in the following days. By the second and third day of Eid, the riverside and surrounding recreational areas were bustling with people of all ages enjoying the festive atmosphere.
Popular attractions such as Shaheed Zia Shishu Park, Borokuthi Padma Riverside, Simanto Nogor, Bhadra Shishu Park, Rajshahi Zoo, and Central Park all experienced heavy footfall. However, the Padma riverbank stood out as the main gathering spot, largely due to its open accessibility and lack of entry fees, making it especially appealing to families and groups.
Many residents took the opportunity to spend quality time with loved ones. Shabnur Islam, who returned from Dhaka to celebrate Eid with his family, described this year’s festivities as particularly special. Spending the afternoon by the riverbank, he noted that the shared joy and togetherness made the celebration memorable for his children and family.
Despite the festive spirit, some inconveniences were reported. Battery-powered rickshaw and auto-rickshaw drivers were seen charging higher-than-usual fares, causing difficulties for commuters during the busy holiday period.
Others, like Enamul Haque, who could not travel to their hometowns for Eid, chose to make the most of the city’s entertainment spots, adding to the lively atmosphere across Rajshahi.
Overall, the Padma riverside has once again proven to be a cherished destination, bringing people together to celebrate the joy of Eid in a warm and communal setting.
