Traffic flows smoothly on Padma Bridge ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr

Concerns have arisen over extra fares, with many saying transport services are charging above prescribed rates

Update : 17 Mar 2026, 11:48 AM

Vehicles are crossing the Padma Bridge smoothly, with no traffic jams reported, as people return home ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Since Tuesday morning, heavy crowds have been seen on the Dhaka-Mawa highway, but travelers from 21 southwestern districts are reaching their destinations without delay via the Mawa end of the bridge.

At the Padma Bridge toll plaza, seven counters for large vehicles and three for motorcycles are operating, allowing rapid toll collection and preventing long queues. Passengers have expressed satisfaction at completing their Eid journeys without inconvenience.

Concerns, however, have arisen over extra fares, with many reporting that transport services are charging above the prescribed rates during the holiday, somewhat reducing their Eid joy.

Munshiganj Police Superintendent said law enforcement personnel are deployed on the Dhaka-Chattogram and Dhaka-Mawa highways to maintain normal traffic flow and ensure passenger safety. Nearly 500 police officers are stationed at key points, with strict measures in place to prevent harassment or untoward incidents.
