The recoveries were made based on General Diary (GD) entries filed at various police stations

The Cyber Crime Unit of the 3 Armed Police Battalion (3 APBn) in Khulna has recovered 76 lost and stolen mobile phones from different parts of the country and returned them to their owners. The unit also recovered Tk 30,600 that had been lost to bKash fraud.

The recovered mobile phones and cash were formally handed over on Thursday at the unit’s conference room.

Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) GM Abul Kalam Azad (PPM), Additional SP Md Mahbubur Rahman and other senior officers of the battalion were present on the occasion.

The recoveries were made based on General Diary (GD) entries filed at various police stations. The Cyber Crime Unit, operating under the Operations and Intelligence Branch of 3 APBn, traced the devices from different regions across the country.

One beneficiary said his mobile phone had been stolen in 2023. Although he filed a GD at the time, he had lost hope of recovering the device after three years. Expressing his gratitude, he thanked the APBn members for their dedicated efforts.

Another victim said her mobile phone was stolen from her residence in Bagerhat seven months ago. The thief allegedly cut through a mosquito net and took the phone through a window. After filing a GD, she eventually recovered her device through the unit’s intervention.

Deputy Commander G.M. Abul Kalam Azad said the Cyber Crime Unit, formed under the direction of Additional DIG M.M. Salahuddin, is actively engaged in combating cybercrime within its jurisdiction. The unit works on cases involving illegal arms recovery, drug seizures, lost and stolen mobile phones, and fraud conducted through Facebook and other online platforms.

He added that the unit has satisfactorily addressed 110 complaints received via the National Emergency Service 999 and resolved 115 complaints submitted through WhatsApp and Messenger. The team also recovered two hacked Facebook accounts, assisted in rescuing three victims by providing cyber-related intelligence support, and extended legal assistance to individuals affected by online fraud and cyber bullying.

He emphasized that continued public cooperation would enable the unit to provide legal support to even more victims in the future.
