27 candidates lose security deposits in Tangail

As per the rules of the Election Commission, a candidate must secure at least one-eighth of the total valid votes cast in a constituency to retain their deposits

A total of 27 candidates out of 47 who contested the 13th parliamentary election from eight constituencies in Tangail have lost their security deposits, according to election results.

As per the rules of the Election Commission, a candidate must secure at least one-eighth of the total valid votes cast in a constituency to retain their deposits. However, 27 candidates failed to obtain the required minimum votes in their respective constituencies.

Tangail-1 (Madhupur-Dhanbari)

Four candidates lost their deposits in this constituency. They are Muhammad Ilyas Hossain of Jatiya Party, Harun-Or-Rashid of Islami Andolon Bangladesh, and independent candidates Mohammad Ali and Asadul Islam. However, independent candidate Mohammad Ali withdrew from the race after receiving his electoral symbol.

Tangail-2 (Bhuapur-Gopalpur)

Two candidates--Monowar Hossain Sagar of Islami Andolon Bangladesh and Humayun Kabir Talukder of Jatiya Party--forfeited their deposits.

Tangail-3 (Ghatail)

Two candidates--independent candidate Ainun Nahar and Rezaul Karim of Islami Andolon Bangladesh--lost their deposits

Tangail-4 (Kalihati)

Three candidates forfeited their deposits. They are Liaquat Ali of Jatiya Party, independent candidate Abdul Halim Mia, and Ali Amzad Hossain of Islami Andolon Bangladesh.

Tangail-5 (Sadar)

Seven candidates lost their security deposits—AKM Shafiqul Islam of Bangladesh Congress, Khandaker Zakir Hossain of Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Fatema Akter of Gonoshanghoti Andolon, Mozammel Haque of Jatiya Party, Md. Shafiqul Islam of Gono Odhikar Parishad, Md. Hasrat Khan Bhasani of Bangladesh Supreme Party (BSP), and Syed Khalekuzzaman Mostafa of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD).

Tangail-6 (Nagarpur-Delduar)

Five candidates forfeited their deposits — Tarek Shams Khan of Jatiya Party (JP), Md. Akhinur Mia of Islami Andolon Bangladesh, Mohammad Mamunur Rahim of Jatiya Party, and independent candidates Md. Jewel Sarkar and Muhammad Ashraful Islam.

Tangail-7 (Mirzapur)

Tofazzal Hossain of Bangladesh Republican Party (Elephant) lost his deposit in this constituency.

Tangail-8 (Basail-Sakhipur)

Three candidates forfeited their deposits—Awar Mahmud of Bangladesh Biplobi Workers Party, Alamgir Hossain of Amjanata Party, and Nazmul Hasan of Jatiya Party.
