A case has been filed over the killing of RAB member Nayek Subedar Md Motaleb Hossain Bhuiyan, who was killed in an attack by criminals in Jungle Salimpur of Sitakunda, Chittagong, police said. Three people have so far been arrested in connection with the incident.
A RAB official filed the case as the complainant at Sitakunda Police Station on Wednesday night.
The case names 29 individuals and includes 150 to 200 unidentified accused. Md Yasin, a resident of Jungle Salimpur, has been named as the prime accused.
The three arrested are Zahid, Yunus, and Arif. Of them, two are named in the case statement, while one was identified during the investigation.
Sitakunda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahinul Islam told Dhaka Tribune that a case has been filed over the attack on the RAB officer and that operations are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused.
Earlier, on Monday afternoon, a team of 43 RAB members, led by Major Jalis Mahmud Khan, conducted an operation in the Jungle Salimpur area of Sitakunda upazila to arrest armed criminals. Sensing the presence of RAB, the attackers reportedly made announcements over loudspeakers and launched a sudden attack on the RAB personnel, involving approximately 400 to 500 miscreants.
Four RAB members were critically injured in the attack. With assistance from local police, the injured personnel were rescued and taken to Chittagong CMH for treatment, where doctors in the emergency department declared Nayek Subedar Motaleb Hossain Bhuiyan dead. The remaining three RAB members are currently undergoing treatment.
