Police recovered the body of a transport worker from a paddy field in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur on Friday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Sharif (32), son of Siraj Uddin of Sonakar village in Barmi Union. He was found dead in a paddy field at Barapani village under Barmi Union. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sreepur Police Station, Mohammad Nasir Ahmed, confirmed the recovery of the body.
According to Sharif’s wife Sharmin Akter, her husband left home on Thursday night after dinner. As he did not return home by 10:00 pm, attempts to contact him failed as the phone remained switched off.
Sharmin alleged that Sharif became involved in altercation with a local man named Babu three days earlier and suspects that he may have been killed as a result of that altercation.
After getting the information, police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to the morgue of Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
