National Social Services Day was observed in Rangamati and Bagerhat districts on Saturday, under the theme ‘Technology and Compassion for Welfare and Trust in Equality through Social Services’.
Rangamati District Social Services Office organized a discussion meeting at the Rangamati District Council conference room in the morning. District Council Chairman Agriculturist Kajal Talukder attended the program as the chief guest.
The discussion was presided over by Mohammad Omar Faruk, Deputy Director of the Rangamati District Social Services Office. Others present included District Council member Naiu Pru Marma, Rangamati General Hospital Resident Medical Officer Dr Shawkat Akbar Khan, General Secretary of Rangamati Disabled School and Rehabilitation Centre Nurul Afsar and Assistant Director of the District Social Services Office Rupna Chakma, among others.
Speakers said social services are not limited to charity or assistance but play a vital role in establishing human rights, protecting dignity and ensuring inclusive and sustainable development. They noted that social services are particularly important in improving living standards in remote and diverse regions like Rangamati.
They also highlighted that supporting persons with disabilities, underprivileged children, senior citizens, destitute women and vulnerable communities remains a core objective of social services. The speakers urged people from all walks of life to come forward and contribute to building a more inclusive and compassionate society.
Keeping in mind the slogan ‘Technology and compassion, trust in welfare and equality today in social service’, a colorful rally and discussion meeting was jointly organized by the Chitalmari Upazila Administration and Upazila Social Service Office of Bagerhat on the occasion of National Social Service Day.
The discussion meeting was held at the Upazila Parishad Auditorium at 11 am under the chairmanship of Upazila Social Service officer Ranjan Halder (acting).
Freedom fighters, officials of various government departments, various beneficiaries, journalists of news and print media and officials of the Social Service office were present at the program.
The participants in the discussion meeting discussed the role of government and private sector in building a welfare state, the effectiveness of social service to ensure social security, and the possibilities and challenges.
