The 34th International Day of Disabled Persons and the 27th National Day of Disabled Persons were observed across the country on Wednesday with various programmes aimed at promoting an inclusive society under the theme ‘Build a disability-inclusive society, accelerate social progress.’
Marking the day, a colorful procession was brought out from the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Jhenaidah at 10 am. Organized by the District Social Services Office and the Disabled Services and Support Center under the initiative of the district administration, the procession paraded key roads of the town before concluding at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room.
Led by Deputy Commissioner Md. Abdullah Al Masud, the rally saw participation from teachers, students and employees of various educational institutions for persons with disabilities, along with officials of different government departments.
In Narail, to mark the day, a rally was held in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office at 10:30 am under the initiative of the district administration, the District Social Services Office and the Disability Services and Support Center.
A total of 11 persons with disabilities received free wheelchairs, one received an elbow crutch and another received a walker.
Later, a discussion was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's office.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Mohammad Abdul Salam was present as the chief guest.
Deputy Director of District Social Services Office Z. M. Mizanur Rahman Khan presided over the programme while Narail Sadar Hospital Social Service Officer Toma Roy moderated. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Lincon Biswas spoke as special guest.
In Nilphamari, wheelchairs, sewing machines and tricycles were distributed among persons with disabilities in Nilphamari, marking International and National Disability Day.
The distribution ceremony was held at the Zilla Parishad premises around 11.30 am. Earlier, a colourful procession started from the Deputy Commissioner's office at 10 am, parading through the main roads of the town before gathering at the Zilla Parishad auditorium, reports BSS.
In Bogra, The day was celebrated in Bogra through rallies, discussions and distribution of supporting materials. The discussion was held at the Bogra Zilla Parishad Auditorium. A colorful rally was brought out from the Battala of the Deputy Commissioner's office at around 10 am, reports our Bogra correspondent.
According to our Jamalpur correspondent, a colorful rally organized by the District Administration, District Social Services Office and Disability Services and Support Center Jamalpur started from the city's Faujdari Mor and circled the town.
Later, a discussion held at the District Collectorate conference room, Deputy Director of the District Social Services Office Md Rokanul Islam presided over the meeting.
