Fire destroys 5 shops in Chandpur

A devastating fire broke out late at night in Balakhal Bazaar, Hajiganj, Chandpur, engulfing five shops, including two clothing stores.

According to the Fire Service on Friday, the fire originated from an electrical short circuit around 12:45am on Thursday in Balakhal Bazaar, under Hajiganj Municipality.

The blaze completely destroyed five shops, while several others suffered partial damage.

Two units of the Fire Service were able to bring the fire under control approximately half an hour after being alerted. With the assistance of local residents, goods worth Tk40 lakh were salvaged from the five affected shops.

Affected business owner Liton Saha said: “My shop contained goods worth Tk15 to 20 lakh. The fire destroyed everything.” Another clothing merchant, Kartik Saha, reported that his shop held merchandise valued at Tk10–12 lakh.

Officer-in-Charge of Hajiganj Fire Service Md Baharuddin confirmed that the fire originated from an electrical short circuit, completely destroying five shops.

Hajiganj police station OC Mohammad Mohiuddin Faruk added that Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Rajib Sharma was dispatched to the scene upon receiving the report of the fire.
