A field day was held in Gopalganj to showcase BRRI Dhan-103, a short-duration rice variety developed by the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI). The event took place on the BRRI Gopalganj Regional Office premises under the LSTD project on Friday.

Dr Amina Khatun, Head and Chief Scientific Officer of BRRI Gopalganj Regional Office, delivered the keynote speech at the programme presided over by Dr Mohammad Shahidul Rahman, Principal Scientific Officer of BRRI Gopalganj, and conducted by Scientific Assistant Abdullah Al Momin. Farmers and officials, including Raj Kumar Roy, Assistant Agriculture Officer of Gobra Union, Gopalganj Sadar Upazila, also addressed the gathering.

Speakers highlighted that among high-yielding varieties cultivated during the Aman season, BRRI Dhan-103 produced the highest yield—22 maunds per bigha, compared to 18–20 maunds from other varieties, making it 2–4 maunds more productive. The short-duration variety is largely resistant to pests and diseases, allowing farmers to achieve higher yields and benefit economically. Additionally, seeds collected from these fields enable farmers to cultivate 3–4 crops per year on the same land, increasing cropping intensity in the district and contributing to national food production.
