The Bangladesh Mineral Development Bureau (BMDB) has announced an open auction of around 61,900 cubic feet of looted and broken white stones seized from the Dhopagul Bazar area in Sylhet Sadar upazila.
The announcement came through a government circular signed by BMDB Director (Deputy Secretary) Md Ahsan Uddin Murad on Tuesday. The Sylhet District Administration’s Media Cell also confirmed the matter to the press.
According to the notice, interested bidders must submit a refundable security deposit of Tk200,000 through a pay order or bank draft in favor of the BMDB. Registration and entry for participation will be held between 10:30am and 11am on Thursday, with the auction starting at 11am in the hall room of the Sylhet Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer’s office.
Participants must also pay a non-refundable Tk500 in cash during registration and provide a photocopy of their national identity card or birth certificate. Detailed terms and conditions are available on the websites of the Sylhet District Commissioner’s office (www.sylhet.gov.bd), the Sylhet Sadar UNO office (www.sylhetsadar.sylhet.gov.bd), and the BMDB (www.bomd.gov.bd).
Earlier, on August 8–10, a large quantity of white stones was looted from Companiganj. Of the looted stones, about 26,000 cubic feet have since been replaced, with restoration work ongoing.
Following the incident, Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Sher Mahbub Murad was made OSD (Officer on Special Duty). Companiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Azizunnahar was transferred to Fenchuganj, while Companiganj Officer-in-Charge Uzair Al Mahmud was transferred on Monday.
