Jamuna Bridge recorded its highest-ever toll collection of Tk4,10,80,950 and traffic volume over a 24-hour period, setting new records for single-day revenue and vehicle movement in the bridge’s history.
Heavy traffic congestion on the Dhaka-Tangail highway and Jamuna Bridge led to a record number of vehicles crossing the bridge amd record toll collection in a single day since its inauguration.
Over a 24-hour span—from Wednesday midnight to Thursday midnight—a total of 64,283 vehicles of different types crossed the bridge, marking an all-time high.
The Jamuna Bridge authority officially confirmed this information on Friday morning.
According to the site office, of the 64,283 vehicles that crossed the bridge, 43,003 were headed towards the northern region, generating Tk2,42,30,700 in tolls.
On the other hand, 21,280 vehicles travelled towards Dhaka, resulting in toll collections of Tk1,68,50,250.
The previous record was set on June 14, 2023, during Eid travel, when 53,708 vehicles crossed the bridge and Tk3,80,63,400 was collected in tolls—both figures were surpassed this year.
Officials also noted that compared to Wednesday, an additional 12,434 vehicles crossed the bridge by midnight Thursday.
Speaking on the development, Ahsanul Kabir Pavel, executive engineer of the Jamuna Bridge Site Office under the Bangladesh Bridge Authority, said: “The crossing of 64,283 vehicles during Eid travel marks a new milestone. It is the highest number of vehicle crossings and toll collections in a single day since the bridge opened."
He added: "A total of 18 booths—nine on each side—are facilitating vehicle movement, including two dedicated booths on each side exclusively for motorcycles.”
