BSF hands over body of Bangladeshi youth killed at Moulvibazar border

The process of handing over the body to the family is underway following legal procedures

India has handed over the body of a Bangladeshi youth, who was shot dead by the Border Security Force (BSF) at the Dattagram border in Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar.

Inspector Sudipta Shekhar Bhattacharya of Kulaura police station confirmed on Monday morning that the deceased, Prodip Baidya, was the son of Shailendra Baidya.

Indian police handed over the body to Bangladeshi police at the Chatlapur checkpoint in Sharifpur union of Kulaura upazila, in the presence of both the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the BSF.

Family members of the deceased were also present at the time.

Representing the BGB during the handover were Subedar Md Abul Kalam, company commander of the Amtali BOP under 46 BGB, and Inspector Sudipta Shekhar Bhattacharya of Kulaura police station.

Around 8pm on Saturday, Prodip was shot dead by the BSF near pillar number 1852 of the India-Bangladesh international border in Debipur, under the Rangauti village panchayat in the Unakoti district of Tripura, India, across the Dattagram border of Sharifpur union in Kulaura.

Later, the BSF took the body to a hospital in Unakoti (Kailashahar), India.

The process of handing over the body to the family is underway following legal procedures.

Regarding the incident, Lieutenant Colonel ASM Zakaria, commander of Srimangal 46 BGB, said that a protest has been lodged with the BSF.

A flag meeting is expected to be held at the battalion level within the next couple of days.
