Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained three Indian nationals with 69 bottles of Phensedyl at the Kushtia border on Friday morning.
Additionally, 14 kilograms of cannabis and 485 yaba pills of Indian origin were recovered in an abandoned state.
The detentions were confirmed by Lieutenant Colonel Md Mahbub Morshed Rahman, commander of BGB's 47th Kushtia Battalion.
The detainees were identified as Md Jewel Mondal, 25, son of Md Nizam Uddin Mondal; Md Rakibul Mondal, 35, son of Shahad Ali Mondal; and Md Bapon Mondal, 32, son of Kalachand Mondal—all from Murshidabad district in West Bengal, India.
According to the BGB commander, based on specific intelligence, a drug and smuggling prevention operation was launched around 6:30am on Friday near border pillar 84/2-S in the jurisdiction of Char Chilmari BOP under the Kushtia Battalion.
“The three Indian smugglers were detained from the house of one Nizam Mondal in the Degreeer Char area of Daulatpur upazila in Kushtia with the bottles of Phensedyl,” he added.
Two Bangladeshi nationals involved in the incident—Md Nizam Mondal, 45, and Md Sharif Mondal, 25,—managed to flee the scene during the raid.
On the same day, BGB also seized 14 kilograms of cannabis from the Hatpara area under Tetulbari BOP and 485 yaba tablets from the Akandpara area under Char Chilmari BOP.
The seized drugs, found in abandoned condition, have an estimated street value of Tk222,100.
Legal proceedings are underway to file cases against the arrested Indian smugglers and hand them over to Daulatpur police station. The seized cannabis and yaba are being preserved at the battalion's narcotics storage facility for destruction.
The BGB said that it remains vigilant in combating drug trafficking and other smuggling activities along the Kushtia border.
