Thirteen Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinees were unable to sit for the public examination that began on Thursday, as the school authorities failed to provide them with admit cards in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
The 13 students, including 10 girls, from Haldia Palong Ideal School at Nil Bania in the upazila threatened to commit suicide following the incident.
The students said they went to the school to collect their admit cards but the headmaster of the school failed to provide it.
Upon hearing the news, all of them broke down in tears and threatened to commit suicide if they were not allowed to sit for the exam later, said witnesses.
Upon hearing the news, the students’ guardians and local residents gathered at the school, staged demonstrations, and vandalized the premises in protest, they added.
Police were informed and quickly arrived at the scene to bring the situation under control.
The students alleged that they missed their exams due to the negligence of the school authorities.
Mohammad Quamrul Hasan Chowdhury, the Ukhiya upazila nirbahi officer (UNO), said that the matter has been reported to the Chittagong Education Board, and appropriate action will be taken following an investigation.
