Two patrol teams from the Assasuni Camp are stationed in the affected area

An embankment collapse in the Bichht village of Assasuni Upazila, Satkhira, has flooded a vast area, prompting action from local authorities and the Bangladesh Army.

On Monday at approximately 11:00am, a section of the embankment in Anulia Union gave way, causing around 150 feet of land to be swept away by the Khulpetua River. Although villagers attempted to build a temporary ring dam with voluntary labor to stem the tide, the increasing pressure from tidal waters made this effort unfeasible.

In response to the crisis, on Tuesday, the Deputy Commissioner of Satkhira, along with the Camp Commander of Assasuni Army Camp under the 55th Infantry Division, the Upazila Executive Officer, and representatives of the Water Development Board, inspected the damaged embankment and the flooded areas.

They immediately implemented measures to address the situation.

The Bangladesh Army has been actively assisting in the relief efforts, with two patrol teams from the Assasuni Camp stationed in the affected area, providing support to both local residents and the administration in repairing the embankment.

Additionally, a specialized team from the Engineers Battalion of the 55th Infantry Division has been dispatched to the site to carry out the necessary repairs.
