Bandarban’s tourist destinations are witnessing a significant influx of visitors during the extended Eid holiday.
Large crowds are gathering at the district’s renowned attractions, resulting in full occupancy at hotels, motels and resorts.
Tourism-related businesses have expressed satisfaction with the substantial increase in visitors after a prolonged period.
In addition to its mountainous landscape, Bandarban is home to numerous natural and cultural attractions, including waterfalls, lakes, temples and sites such as Meghla, Nilachal, Nilgiri, Sailopropat, Nafakhum, Remakri, Chimbuk and Nildigonto.
The surge in tourism has transformed the entire district into a vibrant hub, placing increased demand on accommodation providers, local businesses and law enforcement agencies.
Mohammad Jahir, a visitor from Dhaka, shared his experience at Meghla: “We traveled with family to enjoy nature and it has been a truly enriching experience.”
Bandarban is inhabited by 11 ethnic minority communities, including the Marma, Mro, Tripura, Bom, Tanchangya, Chakma, Khumi, Lusai and Pangkho peoples.
Their distinctive cultural heritage adds to the region’s appeal, drawing visitors seeking both natural beauty and cultural exploration.
Tourist Shahidul Islam, who visited Nilachal, said: “Although there have been minor weather concerns, Bandarban’s breathtaking scenery never fails to captivate.”
The district accommodates tourists through over 100 hotels, motels and resorts, including 55 establishments affiliated with the Bandarban Hotel & Motel Owners’ Association.
The tourism industry provides direct and indirect employment to approximately 20,000 individuals.
Additionally, more than 450 tourist vehicles and 300 boats facilitate travel within the region.
Mohammad Kamal, director of the Jeep-Microbus Owners’ Cooperative Society, said that nearly 450 jeeps, microbuses and other vehicles are available for tourist transportation.
With the growing number of visitors, local businesses anticipate substantial financial gains.
Mohammad Sirajul Islam, president of the Bandarban Hotel & Resort Owners’ Association, commented: “We are ensuring that tourists receive adequate services throughout their stay.”
To enhance security, local authorities have implemented strict safety measures across all tourist destinations.
District Commissioner Shamim Ara Rini said: “Police and the Tourist Police are actively working to ensure the safety and security of visitors.”
Earlier in April, following a bank robbery and arms looting incident in Ruma and Thanchi, authorities imposed travel restrictions in Roangchhari, Ruma and Thanchi.
While the restriction on Roangchhari has been lifted, travel to Ruma and Thanchi remains prohibited.
