As the city empties out during the Eid holidays, Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) is reinforcing a three-tier security system to maintain law and order.
Several CMP officials have said that alongside uniformed officers, plainclothes police personnel will also be on duty to ensure public safety.
Additionally, checkpoints will be set up at key locations across the city, where suspicious individuals will be searched. Police patrol teams will also be deployed throughout the city.
CMP has taken various initiatives and issued important instructions to enhance security.
Mahmuda Begum, additional deputy commissioner (Public relations) of CMP, said: "Extensive measures have been taken to maintain law and order during the Eid holidays. Joint forces are also on the ground this time."
Ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, many city residents will leave their homes and businesses locked as they travel to their hometowns.
To ensure security, CMP has advised residents to use additional high-security locks on doors, avoid leaving cash or gold jewellery in empty homes, and implement preventive digital security measures such as CCTV cameras and alarm systems.
Authorities have also urged people to deploy extra security personnel in residential areas at night, keep records of the National ID and photographs of newly hired security guards, and immediately inform the local police station if any suspicious individuals are spotted.
In case of any law and order incidents, residents have been asked to contact emergency services at 999 or CMP’s special control hotlines at 01320-057998 and 01320-054384.
Additionally, several recommendations have been provided to strengthen the security of banks and financial institutions during the Eid holidays. CMP has advised banks and financial institutions to enhance their security measures, ensure that in-house security personnel remain vigilant, and assign a designated officer to oversee security monitoring in shifts.
The police have also instructed banks to ensure full CCTV coverage around vaults, verify that all CCTV cameras are functioning properly, and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station. If necessary, banks have been advised to seek assistance from the nearest police station.
