A case has been filed against a teenager in Gopalganj for raping a six-year-old child by luring her to a garden with the promise of giving her toys.
Following the incident on March 20 in Orakandi union of Kashiani upazila, Gopalganj, the survivor's father filed the case on Tuesday, confirmed Kashiani police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shafiuddin Khan.
Since the incident, the accused, Akash Molla, 18, has been absconding, the OC said.
When speaking with locals at the scene, they reported that influential figures in the area intimidated the survivor’s family into not filing a case and attempted to cover up the incident in various ways.
However, five days after the incident, the child’s father filed the case, locals said.
The case mentions that on March 20, the child's mother had left her daughter at home and gone to a nearby field.
During this time, their neighbor, Akash Molla, promised to give the child clay toys and lured her to a nearby garden, where he forcibly raped her, it said.
When the child’s mother returned from the field, she found her daughter crying and clutching her stomach. Upon questioning, the child explained what had happened, the case documents said.
"Efforts are underway to arrest the accused, and necessary arrangements have been made for the child’s medical examination and treatment," said OC Shafiuddin.
