GM Quader opposes Awami League ban

'The Awami League is like a car; the driver may be bad, but that does not mean the car is bad,' says Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader

Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader has opposed the idea of banning the Awami League.

Quader voiced his concern on Friday while speaking to journalists at his ancestral residence in Rangpur after arriving from Dhaka.

He said that while some individuals within the party may be bad, the party itself is not.

"The Awami League is like a car. The driver may be bad, but that does not mean the car is bad," he said.

He emphasized that such matters should be understood properly and that making arbitrary statements is not productive.

He further said that everyone must understand that a large segment of the population cannot be excluded arbitrarily, as he claimed "fascist" Sheikh Hasina did.

Quader criticized the idea of holding elections while excluding "half" of the country’s population or forcibly including or excluding certain individuals, arguing that such an election would not be acceptable and would fail to bring stability.

If such actions continue, the country will face increasing conflict and crisis, he warned.

Regarding allegations against him, Quader claimed that there is a conspiracy to discredit him.

He said that since there are no corruption charges against him, people are falsely accusing him of taking large sums of money in exchange for party nominations.

However, he asserted that such allegations would not stop him from speaking on behalf of the people.

He also mentioned that while the current government’s chief adviser, Dr Muhammad Yunus, is a good person, the masterminds surrounding him lack political maturity.

He expressed concerns that the situation in the country is deteriorating, citing the example of the police force, which he claimed has been corrupted.

He warned that similar attempts are being made with the military, which he deemed highly inappropriate.

Quader criticized election delays under the guise of reforms, saying that the people of the country want elections.

Earlier, upon arriving at Saidpur airport from Dhaka, he went directly to his ancestral home in Senpara, Rangpur, where party leaders and activists welcomed him.
