Two young men were killed in a violent clash between two rival groups over territorial dominance in Chanpur, a char area of Raipura, Narsingdi.
The incident took place on Friday morning between the Salam Group and the Shamsu Member Group, both from Mohinipur village.
The deceased were identified as Amin, 23, son of Khorshed Mia from Mohinipur village, and Bashar, 35, son of Barek Hazi. Both were members of the Salam Group.
According to local sources, due to previous hostilities, the Salam Group had been staying away from the area for the past few months.
This morning, when they attempted to re-enter the locality, they were confronted by the opposing Shamsu Member Group, leading to a violent clash.
During the confrontation, Amin and Bashar from the Salam Group were killed, while at least 10 others from both groups sustained injuries. Locals later rescued the injured and deceased and took them to Raipura Upazila Health Complex and various local clinics.
Raipura Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (investigation) Probir Kumar Ghosh said: "We have received reports of two deaths. The incident occurred due to disputes over dominance and factional rivalry.”
He added: “It is yet to be confirmed whether the victims died from gunshot wounds or spear attacks. Law enforcement is preparing to enter the area to restore order."
